Young carers have special needs and the Pollies need to know

Young carer representatives from across the nation, who form the Australian National Young Carer Action Team, met in Mt Gambier to learn lobbying and media skills from journalist Glenn Milne.

The young carers had the wonderful opportunity to meet with the Hon Tony Abbott, Leader of the Opposition, Kevin Andrews MP and Senator Mitch Fifield and put those skills into practice.

The young carers discussed their caring situations and the need for governments to provide better assistance specific to young carers, so that they may sustain their caring role.

What young carers need is not someone else to take up their caring role, but rather support to be able to continue caring and still have the same opportunities as other young Australians to work, learn and participate socially.
